Heaven in a ball....the perfect snack.

My friend Rachel has taken my protein balls to a whole new level...

She mixed and matched the wholesome ingredients and has created a few different versions. YUM.

Here you go...

Easy, simple and of course delicious treats!!

Here are two different versions of my take on the perfect protein ball. Great as an afternoon ‘pick me up’ or a sweet treat with a tea at night while watching your favourite “guilty pleasure” reality TV show (don’t deny it, we all have at least one or two).

‘A Taste of Heaven in a Ball’

1 heap tbsp. natural whey protein
1-cup fresh pitted dates
2 tbsp. cacao powder (Can be purchased from health food stores)
1 tbsp. natural vanilla extract
½ tsp. ground cinnamon
1 tbsp. chia seeds
1 tbsp. unhulled tahini
1 tbsp. ABC butter or any nut butter
1 tbsp. LSA (Linseed, Sunflower and Almond meal blend which can be purchased from supermarkets or health food stores)
1 tbsp. oat bran
Handful of raw almonds – chopped roughly
Desiccated coconut for rolling

1.     Soak the dates in bowl with 2 tbsp. of warm water for 3 minutes so they soften.
2.     In a mixing bowl add the cacao, chia seeds, almonds, cinnamon, protein powder, LSA and oat bran.
3.     In a food processor add the soften dates, tahini, ABC butter and vanilla extract. You can always add some warm water from the dates to keep the mixture smooth.
4.     Spoon the date mixture into the bowl with the dry ingredients and stir well with a wooden spoon.
5.     Place in the freezer for 10 minutes so the mixture firms up which will make them easier to roll.
6.     Once the mixture is firm roll the mixture into balls the size of a 20-cent piece.  Wetting your hands as you go makes it easier to roll the mixture and will prevent it from sticking to your hands.
7.     Place desiccated coconut on a flat surface or plate and roll the balls into desiccated coconut.(Can keep in the fridge in an airtight container. They are delicious so watch out they won’t last long).

‘Protein Delights’

1 heap tbsp. natural whey protein
¼ cup of your choice of LSA, Buckwheat, oat bran or chia brand – I like to use a mixture of all four
3 tbsp. raw mixed nuts – chopped. I use a mixture of walnuts, pecans, brazil, cashews & almonds
1 tbsp. natural peanut butter or any nut butter
1 tbsp. chia seeds
1 tbsp. raw organic honey
1 tbsp. goji berries
1/2 tsp. cinnamon
1 tbsp. pepitas
1 tbsp. sunflower seeds
1 ½ tbsp. melted coconut oil
1 tbsp. desiccated coconut
Sesame seeds for rolling

1.     First melt the coconut oil in a saucepan over the stove and leave it to cool.
2.     Mix in a bowl the reminder of the ingredients.
3.     Add the cooled coconut oil to the mixture and mix well.
4.     Check the consistency as you go, as it may need a splash of warm water.
5.     Roll the mixture into balls the size of a 20-cent piece.  Wetting your hands as you go makes it easier to roll the mixture and will prevent it from sticking to your hands.
6.     Place sesame seeds on a flat surface or plate and roll the balls into sesame seeds
7.     Refrigerate for ½ hr. and enjoy.
